At a time when so many country music artists seem to be “discovered” in corporate board rooms, and their music manufactured in multi-million-dollar studios, it is reassuring to know that the heart of America’s music can still be found. And it’s beating in guys like Michael Edward.
Michael, who was born in Montgomery, Alabama, fondly remembers sitting on the front porch at the age of 7 with his uncle Michael Wane (Nashville Recording Artist), picking out traditional country tunes. It proved to be one of those experiences that defines who you are - and who you will be. Sitting there on that porch with his uncle, Michael knew what he wanted to do with his life. He was determined to carry on the tradition of his idols, including Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and Keith Whitley. And he is doing just that. When he sings their songs, he does so with a conviction and depth that can’t be faked. A multi-instrumentalist, Michael can expertly switch from Christian to outlaw to ballads.
Michael is grateful to have had his talents recognized. He has sung alonside Ronnie Milsap and Wesley Dennis, and has picked with the Waylon Jenning’s Band. In addition, he always enjoys a warm welcome on Music Row in Nashville.
Of course, Michael knows he wouldn’t be where he is without a talented band backing him up. Southwind features Kevin Liukkonen on drums, Fred Jack on bass, guitar, and harmony, and Tim Booth on keys, harmonic and vocals.
Michael Edward and Southwind are a traditional country band - plain and simple. But the depth and emotion of their music is anything but. This is country music the way it should be, with all the heartbreak and hope that defines America’s music. |
